Giving back to build better tomorrows

Recently, I had the good fortune to help build a community park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Helping people build better tomorrows is part of Transamerica’s mission, and that’s why I spent a day with more than 40 Transamerica colleagues helping to reclaim flooded land by building a new urban garden.  Over the past several years, the Cedar River has experienced floods unlike any in the area’s recorded history, devastating the area’s homes and businesses.

I’m grateful to have met the wonderful people of this strong community who are committed to rebuilding. Where waterfront property cannot be turned back to residential or commercial use, they are creating parks with play spaces for children, and shared neighborhood gardens for fruits, vegetables and flowers.

Giving back to the community is a core value that we use in our personal and professional lives.  In my role as senior vice president and practice leader for the TPA community, I focus on listening to third party administrators’ needs and creating programs to support TPAs in growing their businesses. 

As a result of talking with TPAs across the country, we have created new TPA enrichment programs such as the Transamerica Partners Sales Academy, which brings TPA employees a workshop on presentation skills, branding and messaging, social media and sales strategies.  These “how to” sessions have won praise from TPAs who tell us there is an extraordinary sense of accomplishment in honing these skills with expert teachers. 

Several years ago, we built the TPA Advantage Program that offers TPAs marketing support, sales support, social media resources, access to industry experts, advisor outreach programs, and a client management system for TPAs.  We have a sense of satisfaction from knowing that our business partners are enriched in so many ways from the programs we have built.
