Transamerica Investment Monitor (TIM)
The Transamerica Investment Monitor5 (TIM) is our proprietary due diligence process for selecting and monitoring the investment choices offered for your retirement plan. The Transamerica Investment Monitor is a tool you may choose to utilize as part of your due diligence review of the investment choices offered under the plan. The TIM process, along with other resources and advisors, is a tool that can help you to fulfill your fiduciary duty to select investment choices for your plan that have a reasonable expectation to perform well over the long term.
Key Features of TIM:
- Seeks to allow you to identify managers and organizations that have the resources, processes, and potential to deliver consistent performance over time.
- Maintains high standards in selecting and continually monitoring the investment choices offered on our investment platform.
- Presents information in a simple and easy-to-understand scorecard format.
- Generally looks for investment choices that have lower than average management expenses.
Investment Choice Review and Selection Process
Reviewing performance is generally a critical component of the selection and monitoring process; however, the scorecard also notes other quantitative and qualitative criteria.
Specifically, TIM provides information about five different criteria:
- Performance Measurement
- Style Consistency
- Fees & Expenses
- Investment Process & Portfolio Composition
- Management Tenure
TIM's due diligence process seeks to allow you to identify managers and organizations that have the resources, processes, and disciplines in place to deliver consistent performance over time.
All investments involve risk, including loss of principal, and there is no guarantee of profits. Investors should carefully consider their objectives, risk tolerance, and time horizon before investing. There is no assurance that any investment choice will meet its stated objective.
Some limitations on the number of investment choices may apply. Depending on plan selected, a maximum of 50 or 80 investment choices currently applies. 2
The availability of investment choices to your plan may vary based on your choice of retirement product.
3 The Transamerica stable value investment choices are backed by the general account of Transamerica Life Insurance Company ("TLIC") or Transamerica Financial Life Insurance Company ("TFLIC"). While TLIC or TFLIC declare rates and back the principal and interest of these investment choices, any guarantees are subject to the claims paying ability of the insurance company. These investment choices are not guaranteed by the FDIC or any other government agency. Although plan participants generally may withdraw assets from the stable value investment choice without restrictions, TLIC/TFLIC may impose a hold period at the contract level in the event of a full contract discontinuance, partial contract discontinuance or certain transfers. Certain unaffiliated separate account stable value investment choices (which are not supported by an insurance company general account) also may be available. These stable value investment choices instead invest in stable value fund bank collective trusts. These stable value investment choices may be subject to book value adjustments for withdrawals under certain circumstances, and the fees associated with stable value investment choices generally reflect different crediting rate/charge structure combinations.
4 Target date funds are subject to the same risks as the underlying assets in which they invest. Each fund's asset allocation becomes more conservative over time: The percentage of assets allocated to stocks will decrease, while the percentage allocated to bonds will increase, as you approach the target date. The higher the fund's allocation is to stocks, the greater the risk. The target year represents approximately when the fund's managers assume the typical investor plans to start withdrawing their money. The fund's principal value is never guaranteed, including at and after the target. You can lose money by investing in a target date fund, including near and following retirement. There is no guarantee that the fund will provide adequate retirement income.
5 Transamerica performs investment selection and monitoring due diligence related to the investment choices on Transamerica's platform as a normal part of its business. Clients and other interested parties must consult and rely solely upon their own independent advisors regarding their particular situation. All investments involve risk, including loss of principal and there is no guarantee of profits. Investors should carefully consider their objectives, risk tolerance, and time horizon before investing. This is not meant to be construed as investment advice. Transamerica Retirement Solutions does not provide investment advice. Nothing presented herein should be construed as a recommendation to purchase or sell a particular investment, product or follow any investment technique or strategy. Transamerica is not a fiduciary with respect to the plan as defined by ERISA including sections 3(21), 3(38) or 3(16), nor it is responsible for a plan's selection, monitoring or de-selection of investments. Although the investment choices may meet the "significantly exceeds," "meets/exceeds," or "below" criteria, there are no guarantees of a profit and it is still possible to lose money from that investment choice. Transamerica reserves the right to modify, eliminate or add criteria at any time.
