Transamerica Retirement Solutions Announces
Recipients of 2015 Leaders in Health Care Scholarships

Transamerica Retirement Solutions Corporation today announced the winners of the 2015 Leaders in Health Care Scholarship. The winners, Victoria Lo and Jean-Claude Velasquez, are each being recognized for their dedication to health care and commitment to giving back to the community with this $5,000 scholarship to pursue an advanced degree in Health Care Administration.

Lo received her undergraduate degree in management science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a graduate student in the health administration program at Johns Hopkins University. In addition to her academic work, Lo is the founder of a summer science camp for disadvantaged girls. She has also served on the board of directors of a community health clinic and volunteered as a case manager in Baltimore.

Velasquez received his undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University and is a graduate student at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. His ambition is to continue to serve the community as a hospital administrator. Velasquez has been involved in a number of volunteer activities including interning with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, teaching English as a second language and collaborating with immigration attorneys to help legal permanent residents apply for citizenship.

Transamerica Retirement Solutions is pleased to sponsor the Institute for Diversity in Health Management, which coordinates the application and candidate selection process. Each year, two deserving first- and second-year students whose field of study is health care administration, are recognized.

“Transamerica is proud to sponsor the Leaders in Health Care Scholarship,” said Brodie Wood, senior vice president, not-for-profit markets at Transamerica Retirement Solutions. “We are honored to recognize these students for their firm commitment to healthcare management and their dedication to helping others. We wish them continued success in their careers.”

About the Institute for Diversity in Health Management
In 1994, the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE), and the American Hospital Association (AHA) responded to the lack of diversity in the healthcare management ranks by founding the Institute for Diversity in Health Management (IFD). The Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives (AHHE) and, more recently, the Catholic Health Association (CHA) signed on as sponsors.

The Institute for Diversity in Health Management, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, works closely with health services organizations and educators to expand leadership opportunities for ethnic minorities in health services management. The Institute’s mission is to increase the number of people of color in health services administration to better reflect the increasingly diverse communities they serve and to improve opportunities for professionals already in the health care field. To accomplish this, the Institute has designed several initiatives to generate significant long-term results through educational programs, summer internships, professional development and leadership conferences.
